About AFPE

What We Do
AFPE is effective in its efforts regarding retirement, health insurance, retirement funds and legislative issues, works with the PERS board and staff, actively monitors legislation and provides annual information.

Retirement
AFPE board members and/or staff attend all the Public Employee Retirement System meetings. We provide input to the Retirement Board when necessary. We advocate for the benefit enhancements provided to retirees. We testify and lobby on behalf of all retirees (especially our members) when it comes to retirement increases.

Health Insurance
The ever growing problem of affordable health care is always a topic for discussion and legislation. AFPE takes an active role in keeping the health care costs as low as possible for state employees and retirees.

Retirement Fund
AFPE is always on the watch for what might happen to your retirement system. We want to make sure the system remains solid, especially in this time of uncertainty. We want to make sure overspending does not take place and the contributions continue to keep the fund financially sound.

Legislative Issues
AFPE continues to follow other legislative issues that could have an impact on actives and retirees. We follow the interim legislative committee activity and spend numerous hours at the Capital during the Legislative Session.

State Employee Compensation
The AFPE board of directors and staff are dedicated to working  with the Legislative and Executive branches of North Dakota government to ensure state employees’ salaries and benefits are competitive in the marketplace.  AFPE is at the forefront advocating on behalf of all state workers for appropriate salary increases and benefit enhancements before, during and after the legislature meets.

History
AFPE is an organization made up of active and retired state and local employees. We are over 18 years old and have been representing retired workers at the legislature and elsewhere.

As an organization, we have ONLY state employees and retirees as members and are not tied to any outside entity. Our members consist of only former ND Public employees.

This makes us unique and effective when dealing with ND legislators and government officials.

Association of Former Public Employees:

  • Promotes positive image of the retiree
  • Promotes legislation beneficial to retirees
