ND House Votes Down Pension Change Proposal

Today, 2-18-2011, the ND House in a crucial vote decided it was not the right time to make a change to the state employee pension system. By a vote of 47-46 with one absent the House was unable to find the necessary 48th vote to pass the bill that would have closed the PERS Defined Benefit plan to all new hires. The debate on the floor was spirited and focused on the potential costs of making such a change. It is more important now than ever for AFPE members and non-members take action and “Thank” those legislators that voted NO and chose to keep the current pension system in place for all state employees.
